Cotton, a natural fibre, is one of the most versatile fibres used. It comes in a variety of textures and weights and can be either woven, knitted or blended with other fibres! In this section you will find woven cottons that are perfect for dressmaking. Our Corduroys, Denims, Chambrays and Cotton Jerseys have their own section, so make sure to check them out too!

Cotton Poplin is a plain weave cotton fabric typically in light and medium weights. It can have a distinguished ribbed texture due to the weave of the fabric. Poplin is perfect for skirts, dresses, shirts and blouses.

Cotton Lawn is another plain weave cotton fabric using a higher thread count than poplin/standard cottons. This higher and finer thread count gives cotton lawn a silky smooth feel. It is a lightweight fabric and can be slightly transparent. Cotton lawn is perfect for lightweight dresses, blouses, shirts and skirts.

Stretch Cotton is a blended fabric of cotton and elastane/lycra to produce a breathable cotton fabric with stretch. This fabric is perfect for sewing trousers or fitted dresses.

Brushed Cotton is a “soft against the skin” cotton fabric, which due to the handling of the cotton fibre gives the fabric a brushed feel. This is perfect fabric for the cooler weather, particular winter pyjamas/lounge pants!

Seersucker has an uneven puckered texture to the fabric, caused by bunching the fibres together due manufacturing. Seersucker is commonly striped or checked and is lightweight. Perfect for spring/summer clothing.

Cotton Sateen is woven with a satin weave to produce a lustrous looking cotton fabric.

Double Gauze is a lightweight airy and breathable fabric. It is made from two fine layers of cotton fabric that are basted together at regular intervals. It comes with a natural crinkle texture, which you can iron out if preferred, or leave as it. Double gauze is perfect for summer clothes, like tops, blouses, skirts and dresses.
