Corduroy (cord) fabrics tend to be of medium weight cotton fabric with a pile running in parallel lines with a velvety touch. The raised ridges (cords) found on cord are know as “wales”, which is how cords can be described. A higher wale count means there are more ridges per inch. Cord is perfect for making trouser, skirts, pinafores.

Needlecord has finer ridges, and there are typically around 14 to 18 cords per inch.

Babycord is even finer than a needlecord, with typically around 18 to 22 cords per inch.
